Spending Accounts & COBRA

Administration for special spending accounts and COBRA

Spending accounts, such as Flexible Spending Accounts and Health Savings Accounts provide members with convenient, effective ways to manage their healthcare spend. They can help members pay for qualified healthcare-related expense for things like co-pays, deductibles and medications.

FSA-side.jpgHealthSmart provides administration for these accounts, as well as a participant self-service portal for employees to track their accounts online. We also offer the HealthSmart My Flex Spending mobile phone app which brings your employees vital Flexible Spending information straight to their fingertips. Our Employer Service Portal provides extensive reporting and employee account lookup capabilities.

Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs)

A Flexible Spending Account (FSA) is a pre-tax savings account. There are two types of FSAs.

  • Healthcare FSAs are used to pay for eligible medical, dental, prescription and vision expenses. These expenses can include copays, coinsurance, deductibles and out of pocket costs.
  • Dependent Care FSAs are used to pay for child care for dependent children under age 13 or adult day care for senior citizen or disabled dependents while employees are at work.

Health Savings Accounts (HSAs)

A Health Savings Account (HSA) is an employee owned savings account the employee can choose to participate in if they are enrolled in a qualified High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP).

Health Reimbursement Accounts (HRAs)

A Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) is an employer-funded reimbursement plan where an employer sets aside a specific amount of pre-tax dollars for employees to pay for health care expenses.

COBRA

COBRA provides for continuation of benefits to employees and their family who would otherwise lose coverage upon termination of employment or another qualifying event.

Commuter Benefit Reimbursement Account

A Commuter Benefit Reimbursement account allows employees to have their parking and commuter expenses deducted from their payroll pre-tax.
